WELCOME TO THURSDAY THOUGHTS!
Where We ramble on about something... anything. LIKE THE QUOTE BELOW.
Since I was about 13, Jack White, among many other musicians, has been a huge inspiration to me. So, it goes with out saying that when I reached the end of "Steal Like an Artist" by Austin Kleon and saw a quote from him - I would gravitate toward it.
I read that quote about 2 years ago, on one of my countless trips per year to Austin - a place that injects so much inspiration into my thoughts and ideas. At the time I had relaunched me creative agency and was working as a graphic designer at a small company in Fort Worth. There were countless nights where my wife would have to endure my consistent complaints about how unfair the world was.
"If I had the same camera she did I could create the same stuff." I tend to be a little bit of an arrogant dude. Or I would say things like, "If everyone hadn't of moved to Nashville, I would still be playing music." When in reality, I didn't need that fancy camera or a bunch of other people to create the things that were in my head - a lot of those things were created despite the fact.
Which brings me back to Jack White's quote here - more often than not the best movements, the most groundbreaking art comes from scrappy people - like you and me.
We don't need a bunch of money to create amazing stuff that impacts our culture.
Give me black and white and I'll show you a party.
We believe the lie that we need these things - but we don't.
